Electric car chargers fitted in Skipton, Carleton, Embsay and the surrounding Dales villages. Rural supplies, earthing and long cable runs to barns and garages planned properly on survey.
7kW from £1,095 fully fitted (single-phase, on-driveway). Half-day install. Certificate + DNO notification handled.
Skipton is about 45 minutes north-west of our Bradford base, the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales and the top of our patch in that direction. We cover BD23: the town, Carleton and Embsay, and the villages around them. Prices are the same as in Bradford.
This is the bit that makes Skipton different from a city install. Many rural properties, and anything fed from an overhead supply, use TT earthing — the earth comes from a rod in the ground rather than from the supply. Town properties are more often PME, where the charger needs protection against a supply neutral fault, which most modern chargers now build in. Either way we test the earthing on survey and tell you which arrangement you have and what it means before quoting, rather than adding it on the day.
Plenty of Skipton-area homes are farmhouses, barn conversions or houses where the car lives by a detached garage some distance from the board. A charger there means a long armoured (SWA) cable run, clipped to walls or buried, sized for voltage drop over the distance. Those runs sit in the £1,350-£1,650 band rather than the standard price, and we measure them before giving a fixed figure. If you also want a caravan or motorhome hook-up, a commando socket can go in on its own circuit during the same visit.
The stone terraces around the High Street and the castle are largely on-street parking, and central Skipton is a conservation area. A cable over the footway is not an option. A cross-pavement channel needs consent from North Yorkshire Council as highways authority, and a listed building needs listed building consent for the charger.
Northern Powergrid is the network operator for Skipton and most of Craven, and we notify them for you. Older rural supplies are sometimes on a smaller main fuse, which we check on survey.
From £1,095 fully fitted for a standard 7kW single-phase charger on a driveway, and most installs come in at £1,095-£1,150. Longer or trickier cable runs — over 15 metres, several drilled walls, rendering — push it to £1,350-£1,650. That includes the dedicated cable from your consumer unit, the charger fitted and commissioned, testing, the NAPIT certificate and the network operator notification (Northern Powergrid in Skipton).
The OZEV grant is £500 per socket. It applies if you rent your home, house or flat, with its own off-street parking; if you own a flat; or if you only have on-street parking and fit a permanent cross-pavement solution with the highways authority's consent. Landlords can claim too. Owner-occupiers of houses are not eligible. We are an OZEV authorised installer (EVHS 14604). Check whether you qualify →
Text photos of your fuse board, meter and the charger location. Free survey for trickier installs.
We check whether you fall under an OZEV scheme and take £500 a socket off where it applies.
Cable run, charger fit, commission, wifi-pair, test. Power off for around 20 minutes during isolation.
NAPIT certificate issued, Northern Powergrid notified, charger paperwork handed over.
From £1,095 for a standard 7kW single-phase install on a driveway, with most jobs at £1,095-£1,150. Long runs to a barn or detached garage, or several drilled walls, are typically £1,350-£1,650. Fixed price in writing after a survey.
Yes. TT earthing is common in rural properties. We test the existing earth electrode on survey and tell you whether it is adequate or needs work before giving you a fixed price, so nothing is added on the day.
Usually yes. It needs an armoured cable run from the consumer unit, buried or clipped to walls, sized for the distance. We measure the route on survey and quote it as one fixed price.
Yes. A 16A or 32A commando socket for a caravan or motorhome goes on its own circuit and can be fitted on the same visit as the charger.
Northern Powergrid covers Skipton and most of Craven. We notify them about the charger and arrange any supply upgrade before the install.
