That matters more than it sounds. Bradford has an unusually difficult housing stock to wire, and the difference between an electrician who knows it and one who does not shows up as a second visit, a surprise on the invoice, or a cable run somewhere it should never have gone.
Bradford grew fast on wool, and the housing followed. What you get is a city of stone-built Victorian terraces — gritstone rather than brick, solid walls with no cavity, and a great many of them back-to-backs built between about 1870 and 1900 in Manningham, Girlington, Great Horton and Little Horton.
Solid gritstone has three consequences for electrical work. Chasing is slow and dusty and the wall does not forgive a deep chase. There is no cavity to drop a cable down, so routes go through floors, lofts or surface containment. And external walls on an exposed elevation can carry enough moisture to matter where a board or a cable sits against them.
A back-to-back adds a fourth: there is no rear wall. One elevation, party walls on both sides and neighbours above and below in some cases. Every cable route has to come off the front, the party walls or the roof space, and the loft is usually shared or divided by a party wall that should not be breached. We plan those jobs before we start rather than working it out with the floor up.
Beyond the terraces the city is more mixed than people expect. Sandstone semis and the model village at Saltaire, a World Heritage Site where external work needs a careful eye. Larger Victorian villas in Heaton and Frizinghall, many long since converted into flats or HMOs. Post-war estates at Buttershaw, Holme Wood and Canterbury, mostly rewired in the 1970s and 80s and now old enough to need it again. Interwar semis out at Idle, Thackley and Wrose. And modern apartments around the Broadway and the city centre.

Yes, and we do a lot of them. The constraint is that a back-to-back has no rear elevation, so every cable route has to come off the front wall, the party walls or the roof space.
